{"id":1769,"date":"2020-07-24T12:08:01","date_gmt":"2020-07-24T00:08:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mfb-wordpress-ae-prod.azurewebsites.net\/explore\/uncategorized\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-hemp\/"},"modified":"2023-08-09T12:36:56","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T00:36:56","slug":"everything-you-need-to-know-about-hemp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myfoodbag.co.nz\/explore\/2020\/07\/24\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-hemp\/","title":{"rendered":"Everything you need to know about hemp"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myfoodbag.co.nz\/explore\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/FS-BLOG-hemp-smoothie-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2151\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hemp is a complete protein, containing all nine essential amino acids (for more on what this means check out our protein post <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfoodbag.co.nz\/explore\/2020\/06\/09\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-plant-based-proteins\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), making it the dream food addition for our Veggie or Plant-Based foodies!<sup>1<\/sup> One of the easiest ways to consume hemp is via the seeds but you can also get hemp oil, hemp protein powder (pre-ground hemp seeds) or even hemp milk!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hemp seeds contain the ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids &#8211; great for our heart health. <sup>2<\/sup> Hemp seeds are high in fibre and vitamin E, as well as minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, zinc and magnesium.<sup>3,4<\/sup> They have powerful antioxidant properties too.<sup>5<\/sup> What is not to love about this amazing seed!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sprinkling of hemp seeds is a great way to level up our favourite meal of avocado on whole grain toast. This means you\u2019re getting in some healthy fats, a complete protein and complex carbohydrates &#8211; the key to a delicious and nutritious snack.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hemp seeds are also super easy to add into a smoothie, stir through a salad or oats or use in baking such as apple crumble or bliss balls! See Kate&#8217;s recipe below for a superfood smoothie using hemp seeds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important to note that hemp seeds come from a variety of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cannabis sativa <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plant, and not the same plant that marijuana comes from. Hemp seeds do not contain high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the pyschoactive chemical found in marijuana.<sup>6<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Information
