Strawberries are a good source of vitamin C, manganese, folate (vitamin B9) and potassium. Enjoy them as they are or dip them in some melted chocolate for an extra sweet treat.

*Eating them today? Leave them on the bench away from direct sunlight. Waiting until tomorrow? Put them in the fridge. Eating them later? Pop them in the freezer.

Capsicum

This colourful salad staple is part of the nightshade family along with eggplant, tomatoes and potatoes. Delicious both raw and cooked, capsicums make a nutritious addition to your meal as they’re rich in vitamins and minerals like vitamins C, B6, K1, E and A, and potassium and folate.

*Store in the refrigerator to keep them fresh and crisp.

Chillies

Dial up the heat even more this season with some red and green chilli peppers that’ll add a dash of colour and spice to your favourite summer dishes. Not sure how to incorporate them into your summer menu? Try adding them to salads, burgers, tacos and even scrambled eggs to heat things up.

*Add to an airtight container along with a dry paper towel at the bottom (to keep them moisture free!) and keep in the fridge.

Plums

It wouldn’t be summer without stone fruit! There’s nothing quite like biting into a juicy, tart-sweet plum, but that’s not the only way to enjoy this seasonal favourite. Add them to your summer salads, pop a slice into your water or tea, top your morning yoghurt or granola with them, or add it to your smoothies. Delish!

*Store at room temperature.

Sweetcorn

The BBQ isn’t reserved just for meat, and we think sweetcorn is a good case in point! These golden beauties are synonymous with summer, especially when cooked on the barbie. Don’t have a barbecue? No worries. You can also boil them, wrap them in foil and grill in the oven, and even pop them in microwave!

*Store in paper bags in the fridge.

Nectarines

We couldn’t resist including another stone fruit on the list – after all, they’re only around in summer! Very similar to peaches, nectarines are the ideal option if you’re not a fan of the fuzzy skin of a peach. They’re also packed with lots of vitamins and minerals including beta-carotene (which gives them their yellow-red colour), folate and antioxidants.

*Store at room temperature.

Have you seen our Kitchen?
