As long as I can get that balance of home life, family life and work life, then I feel like I’m good!

For our first installment of our Busy Balance Seekers campaign, we caught up with Stacey Waaka – currently residing in Tauranga and playing Rugby for New Zealand – on how she balances family, work and time to herself.

Describe yourself in 10 words or less:

That’s a tricky one! I am a very energetic, bubbly, and smiley person.

What makes you feel your best?

Enjoying what I do – I love my job; I love travelling so as long as I am doing something that puts a smile on my face then I am definitely feeling my best!

How do you find balance in the chaos?

Is making sure I make time for myself. I obviously travel a lot with people most of the time, training every day. So as long as I can get that balance of home life, family life and work life, then I feel like I’m good.

What’s your favourite way to move your body?

Easy question to answer! My favourite way to move my body is definitely playing rugby! Anything with a ball in my hand, running around with my friends and having fun.

What motivates you to stay on track?

My biggest motivation is the feeling of doing my family proud, representing my country, and playing the sport that I love most every single day. Plus, getting to do that alongside some of my best mates and travelling the world doing it.

What healthy habits are you taking up in 2024? Why?

I’ve thought about limiting my screen time.  Phones, technology and social media can be a big part of our lives, but I know how much it can consume us, so for me it’s putting the phone down and just being in the moment when I can.

What’s one non-negotiable you do for your health each day?

Staying hydrated. Being an athlete we have to be on our game every time. Making sure I get that few litres of water every single day to replenish your soul, and to be the best person I can be.  It’s definitely something I do every day.

What is the last thing you did that made you proud?

The last thing I did to make myself proud is bouncing back from a recent injury, I had a bit of a calf niggle.  It’s a bit of a tough journey when you’re left behind at home working on your body. So, for me, getting through that rut and doing it with a smile on my face knowing that everything happens for a reason.
