Men’s Health Week 2023: The Power of Food

It’s time to talk about something that often gets brushed under the rug: men’s health.

Men’s Health Week is an annual event in June that aims to raise awareness and encourage men to prioritise their physical and mental wellbeing.

Men’s Health Week highlights the importance of regular exercise and a balanced diet for maintaining good health. By advocating for physical and mental wellbeing, Men’s Health Week inspires men to adopt healthier habits and seek support when needed.

Looking at your nutrition is an ideal way to ensure you are looking after yourself physically, emotionally and mentally. Here are our top tips to nourish your body and mind with the power of food:

Make It Social

Did you know that sharing a meal with others can do wonders for your mental health? It’s not just about the delicious food, but also the social connection that comes with it. Try these:

Invite your mates over and cook them dinner. Nominate a mate to bring drinks, dessert or an entrée while you cook the main meal and show off your cooking skills.

Eat with the family unit – Try our 15min quick meals to take the stress out of weeknight meals.

Make it romantic – Level up date night by cooking a gourmet meal for two. Pixie points galore!

Keep Heart Disease at Bay

175,000 New Zealanders are living with heart disease and men are at higher risk, and more likely to get heart disease at a younger age. Keep your heart healthy with these tips:

  • Eat plenty of plant foods particularly vegetables and fruit. The more, the better!
  • Replace refined cereals/grains with whole grain foods (like oats and brown rice).
  • Replace foods high in saturated fat with heart-healthy fats (nuts, seeds, oily fish, avocado etc).
